NetLock’s origins go back to an idea that emerged during the coronavirus pandemic. As remote work became increasingly important, I envisioned offering virtual workstations for small businesses. To manage these workstations effectively, an antivirus and monitoring solution was required — but neither the feature sets nor the pricing of well-known providers were convincing.
This led me to begin developing NetLock in 2021 as a cloud-only SaaS solution. By the end of 2023, I decided to rebuild the entire project from the ground up, making it self-hostable and fully open source.
With NetLock RMM as an open-source RMM platform, I aim to enrich the RMM landscape. Today, the market is dominated by large vendors whose products are primarily cloud-based or not open source in the sense defined by the Open Source Initiative.
The Open Source Business Alliance (OSBA) is Germany’s leading association for digital sovereignty and the open-source industry. Representing more than 250 member companies with a combined annual revenue of over €126 billion, the OSBA promotes the importance of open-source software and open standards for a successful digital transformation.
The alliance works closely with businesses, research institutions, and public-sector organizations to advance open-source innovation and establish open technologies as the standard in public procurement, research, and economic development.
OSBA advocates for digital sovereignty, highlighting that control over data and technology is essential for Europe’s competitiveness, security, and democratic values.
